My Grandma's Recipe Box

The best gift I have been given in my twenty-four years is my grandma Ann’s recipe box. Filled with handwritten index cards, the box contains countless memories of devouring Pat’s chocolate pie on Thanksgiving, stabbing festive meatballs with toothpicks before we open presents on Christmas Eve and being sent home from my grandparents’ house with grandma’s chocolate chip cookies or my sister’s favorite chocolate fudge.

As I look through my grandma’s recipes, I notice that we have one thing in common – a very sweet tooth! From red velvet cake to frosted lemon cookies, most of her recipes are desserts. I’m not complaining because dessert is my favorite (and debatably the most important) meal of the day.

While most of the recipes are familiar to me, I came across a few, namely the chile relleno and zucchini pancakes, which I haven’t had the opportunity to try before. I’m going to guess this is because my sister and I are some of the pickiest eaters out there, but I’m excited to test them out in my kitchen!

In the next year, I plan to re-create one recipe a week. Crossing my fingers my grandma’s great cooking and baking skills were passed down to me ☺
